Band Profile
Band Info
. Chris was a long serving member of the Blue Note Jazzband in Bristol where he had the opportunity of playing with many fine musicians including Acker Bilk, Humphrey Lyttelton, Bud Freeman, Wild Bill Davison, and many more. The Blue Note Years produced a string of fine recordings with a repertoire drawn from sources as varied as King Oliver and Bix Beiderbecks to Alto Guthrie, Dave Brubeck and The Modern Jazz Quartet. On the death of his close friend Roger Bennett, leader of the Bluenotes, Chris left the band to join the Antique Six Jazz Band and Richard Leach's 7 Stars of Jazz. When, the Antique Six made a joint decision to cease playing at the end of 2011. Chris decided to bring his own band back together, first as Frenchmen Street Jazz Band, using some of the members of the Antique Six. In 2015 Chris decided to form the Soprano’s Jazz Band omitting the trumpet and adding a saxophone, using the majority of the musicians from the Frenchman Street Jazz Band. Chris aims to continue the fine standard set by the Antique Six whilst extending the repertoire to include those influences that were such an important part of his earlier career and looks forward to playing to the good friends he has made over the years.
